A new chapter for Stony Hill Vineyard. This sprin A new chapter for Stony Hill Vineyard.

This spring we re-introduced two wines to the Stony Hill portfolio: 2024 SHV Napa Valley Chardonnay and 2022 SHV Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Stony Hill founders Fred and Eleanor McCrea built not only a legacy of cool-climate, terroir-driven wines on their Spring Mountain estate, but a close community of friends and fellow growers they mentored over decades. In the 1980s, they introduced “SHV”- a bottling inspired by vineyards they admired and the neighbors they cherished. Today, we proudly continue that tradition with two special releases crafted in the unmistakable Stony Hill style, shaped by exceptional vineyard sources across Napa Valley.

Alongside these releases, we continue the legacy of our estate wines with the 2019 Spring Mountain Chardonnay and the extremely limited 2019 Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from our certified CCOF organic and biodynamic estate vineyard.

Guiding this next era is Winemaker Reid Griggs. It's hard to overstate what a gifted winemaker Reid Griggs is. Reid came to Stony Hill in 2023 after years learning from the best - not just in Napa Valley, but the world: Harlan Estate, Ridge, Dalla Valle, MacDonald Vineyards, and the cult St. Joseph producer Domaine Pierre Gonon.

A native of Cupertino, California, with a graduate degree from UC Davis, Reid is a precise winemaker, thanks to a lifelong interest in microbiology and reverence for the natural world. This informs his approach and his desire to preserve each vineyard’s unique terroir fingerprint.

A historic Napa Valley estate. A renewed vision. The same unwavering commitment to wines of place.
May 24, 1976 changed everything. Among the wines May 24, 1976 changed everything.

Among the wines representing Napa Valley in the Judgment of Paris tasting was the 1970 Heitz Cellar Martha’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, crafted by Joe Heitz from the famed Oakville vineyard. It was only the fourth vintage of a wine that was already becoming one of the most sought-after in America, with allocations in place even before the tasting.

While the headlines would go to the winners, the presence of Heitz Cellar signaled something just as important: Napa’s depth of talent, not just a single standout.

In the years that followed, vintages like the legendary 1974 Martha’s Vineyard would cement Heitz Cellar’s reputation as a benchmark for Cabernet Sauvignon in California.

Fifty years later, the legacy still holds.
