Wrapping up our Spring Icon offering spotlights is Wrapping up our Spring Icon offering spotlights is Zisola, the Mazzei family’s estate in southeast Sicily near the UNESCO World Heritage site of Noto. With 50 hectares of citrus, almond, and olive groves and 24 hectares of traditional alberello-trained Nero d’Avola vines, Zisola combines rich heritage with certified organic farming focused on biodiversity and soil health.

The 2018 Doppiozeta, Zisola’s flagship Nero d’Avola, comes from three distinct vineyard plots and is made with natural fermentation and no filtration. It’s a bold yet elegant wine, bursting with fruit, spice, and refined texture—a true reflection of centuries of Mazzei winemaking expertise.

Established in 1435, the Mazzei family has crafted Established in 1435, the Mazzei family has crafted wines in Chianti Classico for over 600 years. Now led by the 25th generation, they combine tradition with innovation across 110 hectares of sustainably farmed vineyards.

The 2021 Siepi, named by Gambero Rosso as “one of 50 wines that changed Italian winemaking,” and the 2020 Castello Fonterutoli Gran Selezione, praised by Forbes as key to Chianti’s success, showcase their legacy of balance and complexity.

The 2019 Barolo Cerretta comes from vines planted in 1961, while the 2019 Barolo Rapet is sourced from a neighboring parcel planted in 1972. These single-vineyard wines reflect the structure, depth, and aging potential that define Cà Romé’s approach to Nebbiolo.
