Originally built in the 17th century as a hunting lodge in the midst of a wooded area, Villa Marcello began its wine journey in the 19th century when then-owner Elisabetta Galvani Onigo decided to plant the first vines on the estate. Her descendants, Alessandra and Andriana Marcello inherited the vineyards, and today, they are the passion project of Giovanni Mazzei, Alessandra’s son.
The estate is in the Prosecco Treviso DOC adjacent to the esteemed Conegliano area. Abundant light, Adriatic winds and the Venetian pre-Alps provide the terroir to fully express the Glera grape. The estate’s 60 hectares of vineyards are planted to local clonal selections and the wines are sourced from estate grapes only, which means that quality is ensured from grape to glass. Preservation and protection of the environment is the basis of the family’s management of the land and the vineyards. They maintain a historic park housing centuries-old trees and other diverse flora, and the vineyards are farmed sustainably to focus on soil health and avoid pesticides. Villa Marcello’s Prosecco demonstrates its origins with elegance and finesse.
